OUR STORY

Hi, I'm Camille, the founder of Darkly Rooted Books.

My love for reading began at a young age, sparked by my obsession with R.L. Stine's Fear Street books. I would read them under the covers with a flashlight, unable to wait until morning. That habit of getting lost in a story has never left me. However, as I grew older, I noticed how rarely speculative fiction—sci-fi, fantasy, and horror—featured BIPOC authors and characters. Representation matters, and literacy begins with seeing yourself in the stories you love.

Darkly Rooted Books is designed to address this gap. It will be a one-stop shop where fans of speculative fiction by authors from the global majority can find what they’re looking for, as well as discover new favorites they didn’t know existed. We aim for deep stock, not just token representation—a real home for these stories on Atlanta's west side.

Opening this October, Darkly Rooted Books will be more than just a bookstore. We are committed to building community programming from day one, creating a space for the west side to gather around these books, not just to buy them.

We're just getting rooted. Come grow with us this fall.
